Vanavond (22:50-23:45, Nederland 2) zendt AVRO Close up de documentaire The world according to Ion B. uit.

De zestigjarige zwerver Ion Barladeanu leeft op straat in de Roemeense hoofdstad Boekarest, waar hij in zijn levensonderhoud voorziet door vuilnis op te ruimen. Wanneer een galeriehouder ontdekt dat Barladeanu beschikt over een collectie fascinerende maatschappijkritische collages, die hij maakte toen dictator Ceausescu aan de macht was, verandert Ion B. van de ene op de andere dag in een beroemdheid.

Belarus Connection

THE ROLE OF THE NETHERLANDS TOWARDS DEVELOPMENT AND DEMOCRACY IN BELARUS

On December 19, 2010 the next Presidential elections are scheduled in Belarus. However, will the upcoming elections bring change? And can the Netherlands, as one of the most important exporters to Belarus, contribute to this change?

In the world atlas, only two countries separate Belarus from the Netherlands. Moreover, after Russia, the Netherlands is Belarus second biggest trade partner. Nevertheless, the Dutch public receive very limited information about this country. As a close economic ally of Belarus, could the Netherlands influence the way Belarus conducts its internal reforms?

We would like to address these and other questions on December 10th within the following discussions:

- Belarus Elections: What is the Next Step in Belarus-Netherlands Relations?

Land van de maand: Roemenië

Het land van de maand december is Roemenië!
1 December is dé nationale feestdag van Roemenië: Ziua Națională a României ook wel Ziua Marii Uniri (Dag van de Grote Vereniging) genoemd. Op deze dag wordt de eenwording van Roemenië herdacht die in 1918 plaatsvond. Tijdens een vergadering van afgevaardigden in Alba Iulia in dat jaar werd de vereniging van Transsylvanië met Roemenië vastgelegd. Ook Bessarabië en Boekovina behoorden vanaf toen toe aan het Roemeense Koninkrijk.
